Уже завтра, накануне первой субботы Великого поста, в храмах будет освящаться коливо, варёная с мёдом пшеница. Эта традиция связана с памятью святого великомученика Феодора Тирона.

Феодор Тирон (Тирон - т.е. воин-новобранец) - христианский святой, великомученик, чью память Церковь вспоминает в субботу на первой неделе Великого поста. Святой Феодор пострадал за Христа в Малой Азии в начале IV века во время правления императора-язычника Галерия. Но многие знают о нем благодаря чуду, которое произошло уже после его смерти.

Через 50 лет со дня мученической кончины Феодора Тирона в Константинополе царствовал Юлиан Отступник (361-363), племянник святого равноапостольного Константина. Новый император отрекся от Христа и стал язычником. В начале Великого поста Юлиан решил надругаться над верующими: он приказал градоначальнику Константинополя незаметно окроплять продукты на рынке кровью животных, принесенных в жертву языческим богам. Апостолы предписывали воздерживаться от идоложертвенного и крови (Деян 15:29), и, как бывший христианин, император прекрасно об этом знал. Коварный замысел правителя оставался в тайне и должен был достигнуть своей цели, если бы не произошло чудо.
Святой Феодор явился во сне константинопольскому архиепископу Евдоксию и велел передать христианам, чтобы они ничего не покупали на рынках и готовили из домашних запасов коливо - вареную пшеницу с медом. Архиепископ немедленно собрал всех верующих, рассказал им о явлении великомученика и передал его повеление. Царь увидел, что попытка надругаться над христианами не принесла результата, и отменил свой приказ.
В память о этом чуде Церковь чтит память святого Феодора Тирона в первую субботу Великого поста. Накануне, в пятницу, после литургии Преждеосвященных Даров читается канон великомученику Феодору. В этот день благословляют коливо и раздают верующим.
